McKinney joined the Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) in 1999 after a successful retail career with the Belmont Beverage Stores of Indiana whom he credits for many of his management traits.

He has been instrumental in the reprogramming of the community oriented policing philosophy of the FWPD with the introduction and implementation of the Procedural Justice and Police Legitimacy program which he has been in charge of since 2013. The four pillars of Voice, Fair and impartial treatment, Neutrality in decision making and Trust have bode well for the department and the community.

Connect with Mitch on LinkedIn.
McKinney’s philosophy on policing is simple: “Facts matter, People matter! I have spent my career making sure that my tomorrow is a better day than today. By simply finding someone to help or answering a call for help, I know that I am doing what God put me in this world to do.” Mitch is married to his wife of 29 years, Cindy, and has two sons, Jackson and Miles.
